and in relation to the employment opportunities in this sector.

In line with the SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 1.3 of the Call for Proposals, the project’s OVERALL OBJECTIVE is to “Contribute at enhancing the employment opportunities in the Greek-North Macedoniancross-border area by improving the attractiveness and promoting tourism of the Vardar/Axios area”.

The project will produce the following main outputs connected with the specific objective: – 1 common brand of the Vardar/Axios Route is created (1 logo and coordinated image, ground labels signs/signage); – 1 Museum Exhibition Space restored (in Stobi) and 1 new Visitors Centre created (in Palatiano);

The proposed activities are expected to produce the following expected results: EXPECTED RESULTS 1: 30 local enterprises working in the cultural, historical, eno-gastronomic and natural tourism in the Vardar/Axios area directly involved in the project by: participating in the design of the Vardar/Axios brand and of the tourist development strategy;

The Project

The region of Konitsa, as well as the wider cross-border region, has left an indelible mark over the years through the art of its craftsmen. Imposing stone monuments as well as simple buildings testify to the particularity with which the craftsmen of the region created constructions that would be architectural examples of elegance and craftsmanship all over the world.

Creating a content platform

Creation of a content platform that will be available to the wider public as a touristic and educational tool.

Objectives

The general objective of the project is to preserve and highlight the Stone Art and tradition of the regions of Epirus and South Albania as an integral cultural element of the intervention areas and to utilize it effectively in the field of thematic tourism. These two areas are rich in natural landscape and excellent monuments that combined with the cultural local tradition can give impetus to the thematic and alternative tourism development. The main axes of the project are on the one hand the scientific documentation and recording of the craftsmen’s art to highlight important stone monuments with the use of modern digital media and the active participation and interaction of the visitors and on the other hand the preservation of the craftsmen’s art as an educational tool for future generations .
